Continuing their efforts to be more accessible to users, IDP – the conducting body of the IELTS exam has launched IELTS One Skill Retake in India.
What is IELTS One Skill Retake?
Available in India, the IELTS One Skill Retake allows IELTS test takers to retake any one section of the IELTS test to better their performance and improve their overall IELTS score. The IELTS exam pattern is primarily made up of four sections, reading, writing, listening and speaking.
While most candidates go prepared to perform their best on their IELTS test day – however at times we might not be able to perform our best in all sections of the test. This would reflect on our overall IELTS band scores. It is here that IELTS One Skill Retake allows test takers the opportunity to retake one section of the test and retain scores for the other three. This re-attempt provides students a chance to better their scores and keep their IELTS scores on track.
One Skill Retake IELTS Eligibility
Test takers looking to take the IELTS One Skill Retake are required to make sure of the following:
- To be eligible for IELTS One Skill Retake candidates would have to opt for the IELTS Computer-Delivered Test and not the IELTS paper-based test. The One Skill Retake IELTS is currently available for the IELTS Computer Delivered Test.
- IELTS test takers are only eligible for the IELTS One Skill Retake after having completed a full test at an IELTS test centre.
- Candidates are required to opt for the IELTS retake option within 60 days of completing their full test. One Skill Retake IELTS request after the 60-day window would not be considered.
Note: The IELTS computer-based test is available to candidates on all days of the month and across multiple shifts in a day.
What is the Cost of IELTS One Skill Retake?
Candidates opting for the IELTS One Skill Retake option would be required to pay a fee as determined by the IELTS test centre. The cost of taking the IELTS One Skill Retake is INR 11,300. Candidates should note that they would have to pay the IELTS One Skill Retake fee of INR 11,300 irrespective of the section they plan to retake.
How to Apply for IELTS One Skill Retake
In this section, we are going to be discussing the steps involved in opting for the One Skill Retake IELTS Exam.
- Candidates would be required to log into their candidate profile
- The re-take option link would be available to them in front of their sectional band scores if the test date is eligible for One Skill Retake
- To confirm their One Skill Retake, candidates would be required to select the section (reading, writing, speaking or listening - only one) and go ahead with the registration process.
- Pay the One Skill Retake fee of INR 11,300
- Candidates should note that there are limited seats made available and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis
- On successful completion of the re-attempt, test takers would receive a new Test Report Form (TRF) including the new test scores
- As informed earlier, candidates can only apply for One Skill Retake (OSR) within 60 days of their original test date.
IELTS One Skill Retake – Syllabus and Exam Pattern
The One Skill Syllabus and Exam Pattern are similar to the original test. Candidates would have the same syllabus they had for the original test and the duration for the test would be the total duration of the section that the candidate is re-attempting.
One Skill Retake Results
Candidates should note that test takers will receive their One Skill Retake results within 3 to 5 days. Candidates would receive a new Test Report Form which would include the updated IELTS One Skill Retake Score as well as the results for the other three skills in the original test. Candidates can choose to use their original TRF or their new TRF scores.
IELTS One Score Validity
Candidates should note, that when we talk about IELTS One Score Validity, your IELTS scores are valid for two years from your original test date whether you opt for One Skill Retake or not does not affect your score validity.
One Skill Retake – Acceptance
The IELTS One Skill Retake scores are accepted across all universities and student visa processes. However, applicants are advised to check with the university/ Visa admission officer on the acceptance of One Skill Retake scores to be doubly sure.

IELTS One Skill Retake is currently available in Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Canada, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Korea, Malaysia, Moldova, Nepal, Netherlands, New Zealand, Oman, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Spain, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, and Turkey and is being launched globally.
In India, the IELTS One Skill Retake is available across a majority of test centres and major Indian cities such as Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune, and Surat.
