Mistakes to Avoid While Registering for the IELTS Exam

Be very careful. A small spelling mistake in your name or passport number can cause your IELTS registration to get rejected instantly. Check it twice. Watch the type. Do not confuse "Academic" with "General Training" because changing the module later is difficult and costs extra money. Select it correctly. Plan your time. Booking the exam date at the last minute often means you will not find a seat in your city. Book early now. Avoid these common errors to ensure a hassle-free registration:

  • Entering Incorrect Passport Details: Your name and passport number on the form must match your passport exactly.

  • Booking the Wrong Module: Academic is for studying and General is for work. Choose the correct test types.

  • Ignoring Passport Validity

  • Waiting Until the Last Minute

  • Selecting the Wrong Test Mode

IELTS on Computer vs IELTS on Paper (CBT vs PBT)

There are two kinds of IELTS exams, one is computer-delivered IELTS and the other is paper-delivered IELTS. If you plan to take the IELTS computer-based test (CBT), it’s done few times a day, every day in week. The test on computer is almost same in format, structure, and type of questions as the paper test.

People who like typing more can pick the computer-based IELTS, where you do Reading, Writing, and Listening on screen. But the Speaking test still happens with a real IELTS examiner face-to-face. The good part is, you’ll get your IELTS result in 3 to 5 days, which saves lots of time.

If you choose paper-based IELTS, then you’ll write your Reading, Writing, and Listening answers on paper using pen or pencil. The Speaking section again is done live with examiner. But results here come a bit late, like after 13 days from exam date. Before, students booked through British Council IELTS, but now all IELTS registration is done through IDP only.
