How IELTS Scores are Calculated?

To calculate your overall IELTS band score, you simply need to add the scores from each component and divide by four. If the average ends in 0.25, it is rounded up to the next half band; if it ends in .75, it rounds up to the next whole band. For example:

• Writing: 5

4	Limited user	The test taker’s basic competence is limited to familiar situations. He/ She is unable to use complex language and has frequent problems in understanding and expression
3	Extremely limited user	The test taker is able to convey and understand only general meaning in very familiar situations. There is a frequent breakdown of communication

IELTS Reading Score

IELTS Writing Score 2025

Examiners use assessment criteria to monitor the writing performance of the test taker to award a band score of 1 to 9.
