Kaunas University of Technology: Courses, Admission, Cost

Commonly known as KTU, Kaunas University of Technology is an open research university situated in Kaunas, Lithuania. The university was founded in 1920 as ‘Higher Courses’ school which later instituted as an independent higher education institution by the government in 1922. In 1930, it received its university status and was renamed as ‘Vytautas Magnus’ but due to World War II, the university was closed in 1943. The university was opened again and converted into Kaunas Medical Institute and Kaunas Polytechnic Institute (KPI) in 1946 and it was later renamed as the Kaunas University of Technology.

The university offers quality education while providing top-notch research facilities to students. It has nine faculties and allows students to choose from 122 study programs including 48 Bachelor's, 54 Master's, 19 Doctoral and one non-degree student programs. Also, the medium of instruction of 56 programs, is English.

The university houses a total population of more than 9,000 students including over 6,600 undergraduate, 2,000 graduate and 320 doctoral students representing different nationalities. A total of 6.5 percent of the total student population represents foreign students. The university also maintains 8 research institutes allowing learners to experiment in fields like physical, technological and social sciences, biomedical sciences, humanities, and experimental development. The institute encourages its researchers to enlarge and participate in worldwide knowledge networks by offering financial support.

KTU collaborates with over 350 academic institutions in 50 nations globally. It maintains a Career and Education Centre which helps and advises young doctors on career opportunities or other employability opportunities. Other than this, it has a National Centre for Innovation and Business that supports researchers to become entrepreneurs by joining the Startup Space of the University. The university has a library where students can study and obtain information for research processes. The university also maintains a public museum that holds a collection related to the history of the University, its educational programs, cultural events, and lectures. It also hosts virtual exhibitions. To help and support the staff and workers at the university, it has Workers' Union that looks after the Human Rights and Freedoms of the union

KTU maintains an Alumni Association which works to bring together and unite all generations of KTU alumni in order to establish a rich base of alumni. Since 1992, more than 144 thousand students have successfully graduated from the university, who are now contributing to different areas of society. Laurynas Volkavi?ius, Daiva Staneikaite-Naldal, O. Stasi?naityt?, and Alexei Viktor?ik are some of the successful graduates from the university who are currently leading some of the known companies.
