Coventry University Group Supports One In Every 20 Jobs In City: Report
"For every four direct on-campus jobs, a further three are supported across the city through the effects generated by the university’s activity on its city centre campus," reads Coventry University's statement.
Study in UK: A new report has revealed that one in every 20 jobs in Coventry city can be traced back to the Group of Coventry University. This report on the economic impact of Coventry University Group on the city has shown that the university has contributed 14,900 full-time equivalent jobs in the UK and 6,730 jobs in the city in 2021/22.
While commenting on the report, Professor John Latham CBE, Vice-Chancellor of Coventry University and Group CEO said, "It is really important the government and other organisations responsible for the ongoing prosperity of communities like Coventry and the West Midlands realise the economic and social value of universities like us and work with us to help our communities thrive. Coventry is our home and we are proud that we continue to make a positive impact on what is an already thriving city. We pride ourselves on not only providing a top-quality education for our students but also preparing learners for the working world through apprenticeships and upskilling those already in jobs as the demands on workers change. Sectors such as healthcare play such an important role in our society and it is an honour to educate the next generation of nurses, physiotherapists, dieticians and occupational therapists, as well as many, many other roles. Coventry University Group isn’t simply a place to learn; we want to make a real difference to our community, adding to its present and future success."
According to the report, over half of the local jobs came from Coventry University's direct activity and around 2,500 are due to students' spending effects.
Coventry University Graduate Named As Entrepreneur Of The Year Finalist
Naomi Maria, a graduate of Coventry University has been acknowledged as an Entrepreneur of the Year finalist for her streetwear brand.
"Being at Coventry University taught me what is required to create my own designs and the process of refining ideas. DETERMINED Streetwear is like an extension of my university projects and one that I’m over the moon about and proud of!," says Naomi Maria.
"Everyone has setbacks and things that they want to overcome. I’ve been through hard times myself and even creating this brand and getting to where I am has had its difficulties. I love helping people though, in everyday life – giving advice or lending someone something they need – but if I can do it in a bigger way and help people to stay determined, reminding them not to give up and making them feel good in the process then it’s really rewarding. People have told me that my brand inspires them to achieve their goals and that they buy and wear my brand as motivation for themselves; so just to know that my brand makes a difference to them, whether to their mental health or other battles they’re going through in their life, is more than I could ever imagine. I’d always hoped to get to this point and be nominated for awards, but I didn’t think it would happen so quick as the brand only launched in 2023," added Naomi Maria.
