University Of Sussex Awards Honorary Doctorate To Alumnus Noel Tata

Noel Tata, an alumnus of the University of Sussex, graduated from the UK university in 1978 with a degree in Economics. He expressed his gratitude for the honorary doctorate.

Study in UK: The University of Sussex has awarded an honorary doctorate to Noel Tata of Tata Group who is also an alumnus of the university. Professor Sasha Roseneil, Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Sussex presented the honorary degree to the Noel Tata at a ceremony organized in Mumbai. Noel Tata is a distinguished business leader within the Tata Group.

While commenting on this honour, he said, “My time studying at Sussex was a rich and stimulating intellectual experience that had a formative influence on me. It is a privilege to be presented with an honorary degree from the University of Sussex, and I would like to thank Sussex for this recognition.”

Professor Sasha Roseneil said, “I am delighted to award an honorary doctorate to distinguished Sussex alumnus Noel Tata in recognition of his exceptional contribution to global business leadership. Noel is a highly respected leader in the corporate world and a champion of ethical business practices. The University of Sussex celebrates the positive difference that he has made to the Indian economy and to the lives of individuals and communities across India and beyond.”

About Noel Tata

He has more than 40 years of leadership experience in the Tata Group where he played a significant role in the success and growth of the Tata Group’s fashion retail arm –Trent. Under his leadership, Trent expanded its portfolio to include renowned brands such as Zudio, Star Bazaar, and Westside. He has been instrumental in shaping the group’s business ventures.








He holds various key leadership positions in the Tata Group. He is the Chairman of Voltas, Trent, Tata Investment Corporation, and Tata International. Also, he is the Vice Chairman of Titan Company Limited and Tata Steel. He was appointed Chairman of Tata Trusts in 2024. Tata Trusts is the philanthropic arm of the Tata Group.







Recently, the University of Sussex also presented an honorary award to Caroline Lucas, UK's former Green Party leader and MP for Brighton Pavilion.

She said, “It is a real privilege to be awarded this honorary degree – my first – by the University of Sussex. After many years of serving the people of Brighton, it is really heartwarming to have my work recognised in this way.”
