The aspirants who are seeking to study in Australia are currently facing many challenges due to continued changes in policy related to international immigrants and also rising costs but despite all these, the country still remains among the top choice for Indians when it comes to favourite study abroad destinations.

Despite challenges, Australia is still top-choice for Indians looking to study abroad

Study in Australia: Indian High Commission in Canberra, India data says that India is the second biggest source of international students in Australia in 2023.

Also, as per a report, 41% of Indian women have opted for Australian universities in the latest intake. The country is known for its quality education and work opportunities after completing the course. Those who are looking for global career opportunities, quality education, research, safe and supportive environment, choose Australia over other study abroad destinations.

Australia is becoming a top choice especially for Indian women, during 2019-20, the Indian women enrolled for Australia stood at 38%, and from 2023-24, it was at 45%.

Monica Kennedy, Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner at Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) said, “The growth in female students from India is an indication of the trust that families place in Australia as a warm, welcoming, safe and secure destination for study. With a commitment to international students’ experience, while undertaking world-class qualifications, Australia is increasingly the preferred option for families across the world," as reported by Education Times.

Australia is working to curb international students' enrolment

Australia, last month, significantly increased the student visa fees from AUD 710 to AUD 1,600. Also, the saving requirement for student visas increased from AUD 24,505 to AUD 29,710. If this is not enough, there is an ongoing debate in the country to control the international student's migration and also there is a housing crisis. Also, visa hopping stopped on July 1, 2024. However, all these have not deterred the aspirants from choosing Australia as a study-abroad destination.

As per the recent QS World University Rankings 2024, three of Australia's universities made it to the top 20 universities in the world including the University of Melbourne at 14, UNSW and the University of Sydney jointly at 19.
