During his visit to Vietnam, Google's chief scientist Jeff Dean announced a grant of $1.5 mn to Fulbright University Vietnam for integrating AI education into all academic programs.

The Google grant will help the university to equip students with AI application skills, and also in developing AI-related minors and majors in its undergraduate curriculum.

The grant will also aid the university in hiring more AI experts to enhance AI-related research by students and faculties and expand AI-related teaching and foster joint initiatives with industry and academic partners in Vietnam and internationally.

Vietnam government taking initiatives to develop AI

Recently in July, the Ministry of Planning and Investment's National Innovation Centre partnered with Google to introduce an initiative to promote the development of AI in Vietnam. The initiative will focus on the development of the startup ecosystem and human resources. Under the initiative, 10 training courses will offer around 40,000 scholarships. The beneficiaries include lecturers, officials, and students of over 80 colleges and universities in the country.

Vietnam is going to establish three national innovative centres for Artificial Intelligence and have training facilities in this sphere and a minimum of one representative on the list of ASEAN's 20 leading R&D.

"Viet Nam's digital economy is expected to grow 11 times to reach US$220 billion by 2030, equivalent to nearly half of the country's current GDP. AI is one of the key factors in realizing the outlook," said Marc Woo, managing director of Google Vietnam and Google Asia Pacific, as reported by Baochinhphu.

Fulbright University students visit to US

The visit to the US offered significant learning experiences and engagements to the students, as stated by the university. It was an over one-week trip that offered participants an opportunity to explore technology (tech) transfer and innovation and Intellectual Property (IP) commercialization.

"We extend our gratitude to the U.S Department of State (Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs) for funding the “Fueling the Engine of Innovation in the Indo-Pacific Region” initiative; Fulbright University Vietnam and Fulbright University Vietnam USA as implementing partners of the Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Program under this initiative; AUTM as the organizer of the 2024 Central Region Meeting; the University of Kentucky; the University of Louisville; and all outstanding individuals and organizations involved. Together, we have made the 2024 U.S Visit a resounding success," reads the official statement of the university.
