Governor-General Of Australia visits RMIT University
Study in Australia: Governor-General of Australia visited RMIT University and engaged with the university’s student support services.
RMIT University Chancellor Peggy O’Neal AO hosted an event which was attended by the Governor-General Mostyn. While attending the university, she learnt more about the Australia Vietnam Policy Institute and its impact on deepening connections between the two countries and trade. She also engaged with the university student support services.
The Governor-General is a businesswoman and community leader. She has served in various governance and executive roles across diverse sectors including climate change, sport, business, not-for-profit, policy and the arts. She is known for her exceptional service to Australia.
“Well known as a strong supporter of women in sport, she was an advocate for the creation of the AFL Women’s league and co-founder of the Minerva Network, Australia’s only mentorship and development program dedicated to professional female athletes. The Governor-General is also passionate about gender inclusion and equality, sustainability, climate change action, mental health and reconciliation – contributing significantly across all fields through her roles on influential boards and committed advocacy work,” reads the RMIT University statement.
“For her continued contribution as an advocate for gender inclusion and equality, sustainability, and climate change action, Ms Mostyn was awarded the 2020 United Nations Day Honour Award and an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from the Australian National University in 2018. Most recently, Ms Mostyn chaired the boards of Aware Super, Centre for Policy Development, Beyond Blue, Australians Investing in Women, Foundation for Young Australians, Women’s Economic Equality Taskforce, Australian National Research Organisation for Women’s Safety (ANROWS) and The Climate Council,” reads her biography in Australian government data.
RMIT University features In 2025 Australia Day honours
In 2025 Australia Day honours list, current and former RMTI staff and alumni have been recognized. The alumni who received the 2025 Australia Day honours included Professor Emerita Margaret Plant, Dr Wendy Bunston, Stacey Campton, Wendy Simpson, Michael Nowill, James Blagg, and Bartholemew Wunderlich and Narelle Capp.
“Associate Professor Marietta Martinovic and Dr Christine Craik, both from the RMIT School of Global, Urban and Social Studies in the College of Design and Social Context, were among current university staff awarded with honours this week. Professor Martinovic was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the General Division for service to social welfare, and to criminology,” added RMIT University statement.
