University Of Sheffield UK Invites Applications For MSc Drug Discovery Science

MSc Drug Discovery Science at the University of Sheffield involves various disciplines of science including chemistry, biology, pharmacology and toxicology.

Study in UK: The University of Sheffield has invited applications for its MSc Drug Discovery Science course. It will commence in September 2025.

“This drug discovery course allows students to understand the process through which pharmaceutical drug candidates are identified, characterised and optimised for clinical trials. Students will learn about the increasing challenges faced by the pharmaceutical industry to produce drugs that treat diseases safely and more effectively, with lower financial and environmental cost, while also trying to address the rise of antimicrobial resistance,” says the university statement.

Eligibility Criteria For MSc Drug Discovery Science

The following are the eligibility criteria for the course:

• The students must have a three-year bachelor's degree from a recognized university.
• They must have scored a minimum of 60% in their bachelor's degree.
• The degree should be in a relevant subject with relevant modules.
• Eligible subjects for the degree include - Pharmaceutical Engineering, Pharmacy, Medicinal Chemistry, Chemistry, Traditional Chinese Pharmacy, and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
• An IELTS score of 6.5 with no less than 6 in each component is required.

MSc Drug Discovery Science: More Details

The course covers the design techniques and drug discovery used in the pharmaceutical industry. This course involves various scientific disciplines including chemistry, biology, pharmacology, and toxicology.

“Students' training will cover the fundamental chemistry and biology of key proteins, and their role in diseases. They will also learn about the various impacts that the proteins’ interactions with specific drugs have on the human body. Students will be trained in computer-aided drug design techniques used to assist in the prediction of the efficacy of a potential drug, and in screening technologies for testing a drug’s effect on its molecular targets,” added the university statement.

The students will study and develop their expertise in various settings including in group workshops, lectures, research projects and laboratory practicals. The students will be spending around 12 weeks working either on a cohort research project or individual research project. They will get access to the University of Sheffield’s outstanding research facilities.
