Indian students in Kyrgyzstan's Bishkek want to return home
Around 15,000 Indian students are currently studying in Kyrgyzstan. The students are reportedly being attacked by the locals when they go out.
Indian students in Kyrgyzstan's Bishkek are reportedly facing violent attacks by the locals. A few days ago, Indian and Pakistani consulates advised their students to stay indoors to protect themselves from mob violence.
As per the Indian Express report, the parents have urged the Centre to ensure that their wards return safely amid the reports of violence.
MP Chief Minister Mohan Yadav talked to three students and assured them of help. “I have talked to the students of Madhya Pradesh, including those from Ujjain, Mandsaur, Neemuch and other places. They are safe. We are in touch with the centre and the students are provided security,” he said.
A few days ago, Indian Embassy in Kyrgyzstan, said that from the moment the information about the incident was reported, law enforcement agencies took prompt measures and arrested people responsible for the incident. The arrested persons were both the citizens of Kyrgyz Republic and foreign citizens.
Parents are worried about their wards
The situation is under control and no one was seriously injured said the Indian Embassy. However, parents are worried and want their children to come back safely.
Alka Solanki whose son Raj is studying medicines in the Central Asian Country said, “My son is scared because of what has happened in the country in the last two days. I only want my son to return home safely with other students. I have spoken to my son, and students are not permitted to go outside. They are scared.”
"Situation in Bishkek continues to remain normal. Students are, however, advised to remain vigilant and follow the guidelines laid down by the authorities in Kyrgyz Republic. In case of any issue, students can contact the Embassy at 0555710041, 0555005538," reads a message by India in Kyrgyz Republic, on the X platform.
"Were elections more important than people's lives?Indian students in Kyrgyzstan are locked in their flats, have no food, no water, locals are attacking them but media houses are silent," says another message.
Ministers urge Dr Jaishankar to ensure safety of Indian students
"My deep concern regarding the recent violent incidents targeting Indian students in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, is growing. Several Indian students have been injured. The situation has rapidly deteriorated, with locals targeting foreign students, including those from India," said Member of the Telangana Legislative Assembly Harish Rao Thanneeru.
He urged the Telangana government, the government of India, External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar and the Indian Embassy in Bishkek to take immediate action to ensure the safety of Telangana students and implement effective measures swiftly.
"The severity of the situation demands robust intervention to prevent further harm and to reassure the families of the students about their safety," he added.
Member of Parliament Lok Sabha Asaduddin Owaisi also urged Dr Jaishankar to take strong steps.
"Some locals in #Kyrgyzstan have been violently targeting Indian students. A student reached out to me saying that they have not eaten for the last five days. @drsjaishankar, please take strong steps to protect our people there. Arrangements must be made for their return if the situation does not improve," he said.
