New York University Tops US Universities For International Students, Study Abroad
New York University has been placed at the top position for having the maximum number of international students and also for providing study abroad opportunities to its US students.
Study in US: In an annual Open Doors survey, New York University has been placed at the number one position for international education. The university was found to have the maximum number of international students as compared to other US universities and it also sends the largest number of students to study abroad.
NYU President Linda G. Mills said, "This ranking is a testament to NYU’s commitment to global education, research, and engagement, and a source of pride. Increasing the number of NYU students who participate in study away programs and other vital global experiences is a top University priority; not only do they help prepare our students for the challenges of the 21st century, but these experiences also have strong positive effects on student development and career outcomes.”
NYU At No.1 For International Education: More Details
The survey revealed that in the academic year 2023–24, the university hosted over 27,247 international students, which is 27,247 more international students than its nearest competitor. NYU also sent its 4,354 US students to study abroad.
"NYU has an unrivaled global presence among major research universities, with a network of three degree-granting campuses (New York, Abu Dhabi, and Shanghai) and 13 global academic centers abroad and in the US (Accra, Berlin, Buenos Aires, Florence, London, Madrid, Paris, Prague, Sydney, Tel Aviv, as well as Los Angeles, Tulsa, and Washington, DC). Research has shown that students who study away gain attitudinal, cognitive, and long-term career benefits," said the official statement.
NYU Students Studying Away Give Back To World Communities
The students studying at NYU's global sites contribute to the local communities in the areas of housing, environment, and education.
Spencer Mulvaney, a third-year student at Gallatin volunteered with Techno, a youth-led community organization, to improve the living conditions of the local people.
“I volunteer my time because it gives me a sense of purpose, and it is a way I can easily give back to communities. I was motivated to be a part of this organization because it was a chance to have an immersive experience by meeting all different people from all over Argentina working together to achieve the same goal. The community in this organization was incredible—people were always dancing to music and celebrating life," said Spencer.
Global Liberal Studies student Gabriella Lawal studying in Paris gathered fellow NYU students and made sandwiches for refugees.
“It’s important to give back, especially being here for a year. It can be hard to immerse yourself into the community, especially when I don’t speak French fluently. It wasn’t a Thanksgiving event, but it felt like it because we were giving back to the community. If I were in New York, I’d volunteer to do something, so it felt important to do my part here," said Gabriella.
