Rice University US Introduces $2 Million Scholarship Programme For Indian Students
Rice University in the US has announced its expansion to India with the establishment of Rice Global India. It has also announced a scholarship worth $2 Million for Indian students.
The collaboration will foster student and faculty exchanges, advanced research initiatives, and partnerships in key areas of mutual interest such as biotechnology, artificial intelligence and sustainable energy.
Rice President Reginald DesRoches said, “India is a country of tremendous opportunity, one where we see the potential to make a meaningful impact through collaboration in research, innovation and education. Our presence in India is a critical step in expanding our global reach, and we are excited to engage more with India’s academic leaders and industries to address some of the most pressing challenges of our time. This expansion reflects our commitment to fostering a more interconnected world where education and research transcend borders.”
Why Rice University Is Expanding In India?
According to the university, India's influence is growing in areas such as climate change, biotechnology, artificial intelligence and energy and it aligns with the universities research priorities. The expansion plan highlights the university's aim to contribute to India's innovation ecosystem by participating in student exchanges with prestigious institutes, faculty collaborations and joint research initiatives.
Caroline Levander, vice president for global at Rice said, “India’s position as one of the world’s fastest-growing education and technology markets makes it a crucial partner for Rice’s global vision. The U.S.-India relationship, underscored by initiatives like the U.S.-India Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology, provides fertile ground for educational, technological and research exchanges.”
Rice University Introduces Scholarship For Indian Students
As part of the expansion plan, the university has launched a scholarship program. It will fund up to $2 million annually for Indian students. Initially, it has committed $2 million per year but it can go up in future depending upon the demand for the scholarship. The scholarship aims to further advance Rice University's global presence and attract top talent from India by supporting them in professional master's degrees through exchange programs, as reported by the Free Press Journal.
