  1. Academic Preparation: It is important to understand the requirements of the program in which you are enrolling, get ready for the academic challenges you are going to face and familiarize yourself with the course curriculum.
  2. Emotional Readiness: Studying away in another country can be emotionally draining at times as you will not have your loved ones in your surroundings. Hence, it is important to plan ahead and be ready for such situations by joining student groups, connecting with your loved ones and if required seeking counselling services.
  3. Financial Planning: It is an extremely important step which the students need to complete, they should make a budget that covers insurance, travel costs, living expenses, and tuition fees. After creating a comprehensive budget, they must also explore the scholarship and other financial aid available to them.
  4. Cultural preparedness: While starting their study abroad journey, the students might face cultural shock which can give them a feeling of loneliness and frustration. It is important to research in advance the social norms, traditions and customs of your host country to minimize such issues.
  5. Health Insurance: While studying in a foreign country, it is important that the student should be adequately covered through health insurance. Also, know in advance about the health care system of the country in which you are planning to move, especially how to access the services during emergencies and other health problems.

  7. Legal and Regulatory Awareness: It is significant that the students should have an understanding of the legal requirements of the host country to avoid any legal issues later on. They should also know the legal rules around working part-time which is going to help them later.

Some can prefer staying on campus and others might also like to have a secure and affordable option outside the campus. While planning to stay on-campus, find out about all the requirements and if planning it outside the campus then consider the public transport options available, proximity to the university and other essential services.
  9. Overcome Language Barriers: Even if the course is available in English, knowing the basics of the local language is essential. It is advisable that the students should take language classes before going to study abroad.
  10. Visa and Immigration Procedures: Securing a student visa can be time taking and critical process. The students must ensure that they meet all the requirements, and do the formalities on time. It requires submitting various documents such as financial statements, proof of enrollment and sometimes language proficiency test results.
