The last date to apply for the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship in Hungary for the academic year (2025/2026) is January 15, 2025.

Elte University in Hungary is currently accepting applications for the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship program by the Hungarian government. The scholarship is open to international students from around 80 countries.

As of 2020, the scholarship amount for preparatory, master’s and bachelor’s courses was HUF 43,700 and during the first two years (during the training and research period) of doctoral studies, it was HUF 140,000/month, and during the second two years (the research and dissertation period) of doctoral studies, it was HUF 180,000/month.

“Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship holders are encouraged to focus on their academic advancement during their stay in Hungary, as all their tuition fees are covered, and their accommodation and living costs are supported as well. Upon finishing their studies, a European degree in hand provides graduates with a wide range of opportunities in the global job market,” says the official statement.

Programs Offered At Elte University For International Students

It offers a range of degree programs for foreign students and most of them are available under this scholarship. The programs are across Social Sciences, Informatics, Science, Humanities, Education Sciences and Psychology, Primary and Pre-School Education and Business.








The preparatory course in the Hungarian language is for one year, then there are 3 and 3 and 1/2 years of bachelor’s programmes, and two years of Master’s programmes and 2+2 years of doctoral programmes.







Benefits Of Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship

The scholarship provides free visa and residence permit administration and exemption from paying application and tuition fees, supplementary private health insurance and health care services, place in a dormitory depending on institute capacity or HUF 40,000/month accommodation allowance for 12 months. The students will be able to use the library services free of charge.

“The scholarship programme offers both full degree and partial study opportunities in the three-cycle degree structure (bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programmes), mostly in the English language; however, other foreign language study programmes are also available in the framework of the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme. Students can also apply for a one-year Hungarian language preparatory training course, after which they can pursue their higher education studies in the Hungarian language,” added the official statement.  

The university said that the number of applications and awardees is increasing constantly by each passing year. Over 66,000 applications were received during 2024, and around 4,500 applicants were awarded scholarships.
