Monash University is currently accepting applications for the Sir James McNeill Postgraduate Research Scholarship. The scholarship is funded by a private trust established in memory of the late Sir James McNeill for his long association with the university. The last date to apply for the scholarship is 31 October 2024.
The prestigious scholarship will help students with living costs while his/her stay in the university. It is available for research that is both socially and environmentally responsible. The benefits include - a research allowance, living allowance and relocation allowance if eligible.
It is open to students worldwide. The recipients could be Australian citizens, International citizens, New Zealand citizens, and Australian humanitarian visa holders. It is also available to the Monash students who are undertaking Joint Research Awards.
Eligibility Criteria
The following are the eligibility conditions:
- The applicant must meet the university's competitive scholarship selection process requirements
- They must have applied for a scholarship in the same year it is being offered.
- They must be undertaking socially and environmentally beneficial research projects.
- The applicants must meet the university's English language proficiency requirements.

The scholarship is very competitive in nature and are given by evaluating prior research experience, any research outputs and academic records.
"The standard RTP Scholarships terms and conditions as outlined in the RTP Scholarship Procedures apply, with the exceptions outlined in the eligibility criteria above. This scholarship is open to those conducting research within the faculties of Arts (School of Music only); Engineering; Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences and Science," reads the official statement.
There is no separate application for this scholarship, a single application is applicable for both the scholarship and admission. Once the applicant has applied for the course, the student will be automatically considered for the scholarship. However, different scholarships at the university can have different application processes. It is advisable to carefully read the application details and submit your application by the deadline.
For new applicants, they must have received an invitation from the university to apply to a course before they start their application process.
