Study In Canada: University Of Toronto Recognized For Sustainability Practices

The City of Toronto in Canada has recognized the University of Toronto for its leadership in sustainability with a congratulatory scroll. The university is a founding member of the Green Will Initiative and for this reason, it has received the scroll for its contributions as a member.

Toronto’s Deputy Mayor Jennifer McKelvie presented the scroll at Hart House. Catherine Thorn, director, of sustainability and energy management and Scott Hendershot, senior manager at U of T’s Sustainability Office received the scroll on behalf of the university.

Ron Saporta, chief operating officer, of property services and sustainability commented, “U of T is proud to take on a leadership role in advancing environmental sustainability in the region by undertaking initiatives that deliver dramatic and rapid emissions reductions. Today’s recognition affirms that we’re on the right track as we pursue our ambition of becoming climate-positive, and in doing so, support the City of Toronto’s aggressive climate action strategy.”

“We look forward to continuing to work closely with our colleagues in the City of Toronto to further advance our shared aim of a more sustainable future," added Ron Saporta.

University Of Toronto Students Awarded Prestigious Rhodes Scholarships

Noah Rudder and Amy Mann from the University Of Toronto have been awarded the prestigious Rhodes Scholarships to pursue fully-funded graduate studies at the University of Oxford.

Rhonda McEwen, president and vice-chancellor of Victoria University in the University of Toronto, commented she was over the moon for Rudder and Mann. “It is a true privilege to interact with this calibre of young person,” McEwen said.

“Both students share a passion for people and embody the multidisciplinary approach needed to address the ‘wicked problems’ of the world – complex issues requiring insights from multiple disciplines,” McEwen added.

“I was so grateful – I feel at home in the theatre, and there’s no better place for me to have taken that call,” says Rudder.

“I want to keep studying math and seeing how we can apply it to these big problems – like considering social factors of disease transmission to improve intervention strategies,” says Mann, who is the president of the U of T Mathematics Union.
