Humboldt Research Fellowship offers a 6-24 month stay in Germany for research work. The Selection Committee reviews the applications in every, March, July and November. The applicants are advised to fill out the application form well in advance.

Humboldt Foundation is offering a Humboldt Research Fellowship for experienced researchers and postdocs of all nationalities and research areas. The foundation aims to achieve a balance between a high level of diversity and gender among its fellows.

“We therefore expressly invite female scientists and members of underrepresented groups to apply. We welcome all applications, regardless of ethnic, cultural or social background, gender identity, age, religion, worldview, disability or sexual orientation,” reads the official statement.

Humboldt Research Fellowship: Details

The Fellows will be able to conduct their own research and will be partnering with a host of any of the research institutions of their choice. The Fellows will get a monthly fellowship amount of €2,700 plus additional benefits. The duration can vary from 6 to 24 months. Experienced researchers can also apply for the fellowship to conduct research in Germany. They will get €3,200 plus additional benefits.








The candidate’s academic qualifications will be assessed based on many parameters including academic record, performance to date, quality of key publications, originality and innovation potential.

Eligibility Criteria

An applicant who completed their doctorate or equivalent qualification within the last four years, published in academic journals by publishing houses, or completed their doctorate in six months and can provide a summary of their findings or those who completed their doctorate or equivalent qualification in the last twelve years, can apply.







“The deadline for meeting certain formal conditions – in particular those relating to limitations on career stages and previous stays in Germany – is the date on which we receive your application,” added the official notification.

“If your application is unsuccessful, we may provide you with the reasons for our decision. Please request this information informally by email. You and your host will receive a letter with the outcome of your application approximately five weeks after the decision is made. Decisions cannot be appealed. You can, however, re-apply if you significantly improve crucial aspects of the rejected application. In the case of unanimously rejected applications, you must unfortunately wait a minimum of 18 months before re-applying,” added notification.
