Study In UK: Durham University Subjects Among World Top 100

Durham University's four subjects have been ranked in the top 100 in the World University Rankings by Subject 2025 released yesterday. This ranking is one of the most prestigious ones which evaluates universities around the world across broad subject areas.

Durham University's Arts and Humanities has performed the best as it ranked at 40, and Law at 55 which was joint 60 in the previous year. Also, Social Sciences including departments of Sociology, Geography, international affairs and government was positioned at 84th.

"Durham Law School is among the best in the UK, and our graduates have gone on to be members of the UK Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal, and Members of Parliament. Our Faculty of Social Sciences brings together leading voices in the investigation of violence and abuse, climatology, and urban sustainability, and our School of Education includes expertise in improving educational outcomes and supporting disadvantaged students," says the university statement.

Durham Joins New Network To Support Humanities And Social Sciences Early Career Researchers

Durham has joined hands with the Queen’s University Belfast and Northumbria University to form the British Academy’s emerging Early Career Researcher Network's (ECRN) North East and Northern Ireland (NENI) cluster across the UK.

"It will provide early career researchers in humanities and social sciences with access to a comprehensive range of tailored support. Whilst led by Durham, Northumbria and Queen’s universities, the network will be open to early career researchers from all universities and other organisations that carry out research across the North East of England and Northern Ireland. It will be designed and led by early career researchers, ensuring their needs and requirements are at the forefront," reads Durham University's statement.

The British Academy ECRN was introduced in 2021 in collaboration with the Wolfson Foundation. It is a research-led and inclusive network open to all early career researchers in the UK. Scientists working in the ‘SHAPE’ disciplines – Social Sciences, Humanities and the Arts for People and the Economy are covered by the ECRN.
