Study in UK: University of Essex Launches Pioneering Integrated Masters In Nursing
The University of Essex has introduced pioneering Integrated MSci in Nursing. This new program will offer a Dual Award in Adult and Mental Health Nursing.
The University of Essex has announced its innovative Integrated Masters in Science (MSci) in Nursing. This integrated course will offer the Dual Award in Adult and Mental Health Nursing.
The Integrated Master in Science is designed to develop students' understanding and skills in two fields of nursing including Mental Health and Adult. For the initial three years, the students will study their chosen field of nursing and towards the end of 3rd year, they will be able to transfer to the MSci. While studying in the fourth year, the students will focus on an alternate field of nursing to get skills for handling patients with more complex mental and physical health care requirements.
"You are eligible to apply for the NHS Learning Support Fund, including training grants of £5000 per academic year to support weekly studies. You may also be eligible to receive an additional parental support of £2000," reads the official statement.
MSci in Nursing: Entry Requirements
The following are the entry requirements:
- GCSE - General Certificate of Secondary Education: Mathematics and English Language C/4. OFQUAL-regulated level 2 maths qualifications are acceptable, and OFQUAL-regulated level 2 English qualifications are acceptable for people who lived in the UK for over three years or are first-language English speakers.
- Other requirements include - A-levels, BTEC, UCAS tariff qualifications, and combined qualifications, IB, IB Career-related Programme, T-levels, and QAA-approved Access to HE Diploma.
“Entry requirements for the programme include a minimum of BBC-CCD (112-88 UCAS tariff points) at A-Level, or equivalent qualifications. Applicants must achieve an IELTS score of 7.0 overall, with no less than 6.5 in writing and 7.0 in other components,” said the official statement.
Integrated Masters in Nursing Details
For, Mental Health Nursing, the university is currently at the 11th position in the UK, and for general nursing, it holds 28th place, as per the Guardian University Guide 2025. According to Mail University Guide 2025, for Nursing and Midwifery, the university is currently at the 23rd position in the UK.
For mental health nursing, it is at the fourth place and for adult nursing it is placed at 14th place in the National Student Survey 2024.
The program is of duration of four years and is designed for making students skilled in handling mental and physical healthcare. It blends 50% theory part and 50% clinical practice. The course will equip students with hands-on experience while making them understand the core principles of nursing.
The students who will graduate from Integrated Masters in Nursing will be eligible for dual registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). They will get registrations as both Mental and Adult Health Nurses.
The integrated course offers more career opportunities as the students get to work in diverse settings including mental health facilities, hospitals, community healthcare and in positions where nursing professionals with multidisciplinary expertise are needed. They will be eligible to get leadership positions in the UK and other international job markets.
