Study In US: University Of California Announces Notable Enrollment Increase In Fall 2024

University Of California has said that there is notable enrollment increase across its campuses in fall 2024. After a dip last year, graduate student enrollment increased by 1.6%. The American Indian student enrollment has gone up by 12.9%.

University of California announced that the university has continued with the last year's enrollment gains. It witnessed notable increases in enrollments across its campuses in the fall 2024.

President Michael V. Drake, M.D. said, “The University of California is committed to expanding access and opportunity, helping our state’s brightest students from all backgrounds realize the value and promise of a UC degree. These enrollment figures reflect the State’s investment in California students and the dedication of our staff, faculty and campus leaders to providing a world-class education.”

University Of California's Increase In Enrollments: Details

The total student body number is 299,407, California resident undergraduate students increased by 9,344, up by 5% since fall 2021. The enrollment numbers have grown from the Pell Grant recipients, transfer students, graduate students, and underrepresented groups (URGs). However, the nonresident undergraduate enrollment has declined from 16.5% in 2023 to 15.8% this fall.

URG undergraduate students increased by 2,568. American Indian student enrollment rose by 12.9%, African American student enrollment increased by 4.6%, and Latino student enrollment by 3.1%.

Han Mi Yoon-Wu, associate vice provost for Systemwide Undergraduate Admissions commented, “The students behind these numbers come from all corners of California and are proof that there are many paths to a UC education. The University of California is committed to making UC accessible to the best students. Our efforts are guided by the University’s compact with the governor, and we are grateful for the ongoing support of the state legislature in helping us fulfill this promise.”

Out of total enrollments for the fall of 2024, Asians are 33.1%, Hispanic/Latino (a), White - 31%, International students - 13.6%, domestic unknown - 2.8%, American Indian 0.6%, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander 0.3%, and African American 4.8%. Around 52.9% of the total enrolments are women, and 43.6% are men enrolled. The top 10 international student-sending countries in the fall 2024 were - China with a maximum number of 17,832 studentss, followed by India at 4,386, South Korea -1,850, Taiwan - 1,282, Canada - 1,055, Indonesia - 577, Japan - 561, Iran -453, Saudi Arabia - 378, and Vietnam sent 371 students.
