University Of Kentucky Earns Open Doors 75 Seal Of Excellence Award
Study in US: The University of Kentucky has been recognized for its 75 years of partnership with the international Open Doors program.
The University of Kentucky has been awarded the Open Doors 75 Seal of Excellence. Open Doors program awards this based on the Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange.
The report provides data on the US students studying abroad and international students studying in the US. The US government provides the funds for this report, which is sponsored by the US Department of State.
UK Associate Provost for Internationalization Sue Roberts, PhD said, “We are honored to have partnered with Open Doors for 75 years. The report is a key indicator of international trends, and our 75 years of participation in it highlights our commitment to internationalization at UK.”
University Of Kentucky Witnesses Growing Number Of International Students
Over the years, the number of international students studying in the UK has increased. When it first participated in the report in 1949, there were only 31 international students which in 2024, 75 years later, has increased to 1,690 international students.
“It is truly remarkable to be reminded of the long history we have at the UK of welcoming international students. This is a history of which we can be very proud. It is the result of many past and current employees, alumni, community members and so many others who have been driven by a desire to make UK a welcoming and a global institution. There have certainly been challenges along the way, but the growth in international student numbers over the past 75 years indicates a positive trajectory for UK," said Roberts.
The report not only tracks the foreign student enrollments in the university but also the participation of the university in education abroad. As per the latest Open Doors education abroad data, 946 students from the University of Kentucky studied abroad between the academic year 2022-23 across 35 countries.
“Increasingly, students will need to understand the world from a global perspective, and we are proud to see our education abroad numbers going up each year since the pandemic. The real story of these numbers, now and historically, is about the deep and positive impacts on our university and our Commonwealth. We are very gratified to receive this honor," Roberts added.
