Study in UK: The British Psychological Society has granted the May Davidson Award 2024 to Dr Sarah Parry for her exceptional early career achievements. She is the Academic Director for the Clinical Psychology Doctorate and a Senior Clinical Lecturer at The University of Manchester.

Dr Parry's research work focuses on advancing care for children and families and on the mental health of youngsters.

Dr Sarah Parry said, “I am truly grateful to receive the May Davidson Award, especially when I think of the inspiring previous recipients of the award, whose work I greatly admire. I feel so grateful for the generosity and support of so many. I am profoundly thankful to colleagues and mentors, past and present, and the young people and families who work with us to advance mental health services for children and young people."

British Psychological Society has commented, “Sarah has championed a reflective and compassionate approach to training in mental health and clinical psychology. She has pioneered leading on clinical research in under researched areas in the field of youth mental health using a collaborative approach in developing communities of support and co-creating research with experts by experience. The Award is in recognition of the dedication and thoughtfulness shown and the quality of the work in improving children and young people's mental health.”

Her current research comprises supporting youngsters with distressing sensory experiences, exploring joint responses to the mental health crisis of young people, and developing trauma-informed care for children which can be used in homes to identify and overcome barriers to inclusive research.

The May Davidson Award is presented for outstanding contribution to clinical psychology during the first 10 years of work as a qualified clinical psychologist.

"The Young People’s Research Centre at Pennine Care reports an increasing number of young people are reporting mental health concerns, with one in six 7-16 year-olds experiencing a mental health difficulty in 2022. The centre recognises that early access to support is crucial, as around 50% of mental health challenges emerge by the age of 14," says the University of Manchester statement.
