Robotics With Foundation Year BEng Course: More Details
The four-year duration course in robotic and mechatronic engineering is designed with industry partners and informed by world-leading research. It aims to equip students with highly employable skills in the engineering field.
Moreover, for students who are not from mathematical or scientific backgrounds, this degree comes with a foundation year for them. They first need to complete the foundation year of the course and then proceed to the first year of the BEng Mechatronic and Robotic Engineering course and spend three more years gaining the expertise.
Throughout these three years, the students will learn about real-world applications in systems control, robotics and advanced manufacturing.
After the foundation course, the students will learn about how to control robotic systems in their first year in the course. During the second year, they will learn about intelligent systems, mechanical design and programming (C++). Next, students will get to apply their skills to a practical project. The project will include building robots either at the University of Sheffield’s lab or innovative iForge Makerspace. It also includes designing a system using 3D CAD tools.
After entering the final year, the students will take specialized modules on machine learning, robotics and others. They can also take up optional study areas to learn about the lifecycle of engineering projects.
