University of Technology Sydney sweeps five engineering awards at NSW ceremony
NSW Engineers Australia Awards brings the Engineering community together to recognize and honour their individual achievements. It recognizes the projects, teams and individuals that have achieved impactful innovation.
Study Abroad: The University of Technology Faculty of Engineering and IT has bagged five awards at the latest NSW Engineers Australia Awards. The university also taken the ‘Student of the Year’ and ‘Engineer of the Year’ awards.
Engineers Australia General Manager Sydney, Jamie Burrage, said, "Awards showcase the impact of engineers on society and celebrate individuals and projects that push boundaries, change perspectives, and inspire innovation. By acknowledging their work, we offer a platform for them to inspire future talent and reinforce the importance of engineering in building a better future."
Winners Details
Distinguished Professor Buddhima Indraratna AM has won Civil College Sir John Holland Civil Engineer of the Year (National Award) for his groundbreaking contributions to civil-geotechnical engineering. He is the Director of the Transport Research Centre at UTS. He has made significant advances in the ground improvement technique and soft soil engineering.
Professor Qilin Wang has won Environmental College Environmental Engineer Achievement Award for his efforts in promoting engineering and environmental sustainability. He is an award-winning educator, and mentor and committed to inclusion and diversity. He has also worked to support young women in Engineering.
Professor David Eager has won the Mechanical College AGM Michell Medal for his outstanding contributions to mechanical engineering and public safety. He improved the industry practices by developing the safety standards for trampolines, playgrounds, and soccer goalposts.
Dr Michelle Zeibots has bagged the Transport Australia Society Transport Medal for contributions to sustainable transport planning and advocacy. He has influenced key projects including the Inner West Light Rail and the Sydney Airport Rail Link. Her academic contributions helped future engineers be equipped with the in-demand skills in engineering. She has transformed transport engineering education. Kyle Jewiss has bagged Engineers Australia Student of the Year. He works as a graduate robotics engineer and completed a Diploma and Bachelor of Engineering in Professional Practice in Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering.
The winners will represent their fields in the national awards in November. The national gala will be held on November 21 where the winners of Excellence Awards for 2024 will be announced.
