University Of Tulsa Students Receive Gilman Scholarships For Study Abroad
The US Department of State awards the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships every year to undergraduate scholars who want to participate in study abroad programs.
Study in US: Two students of the University Of Tulsa in the US have received the nationally competitive Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships. The names of these students are Alexa Miranda and Xayda Alexander.
Vice Provost of Global Engagement Vivian Wang congratulated them and said, “Studying abroad is one of the most enriching experiences a student can have during their college career. The Gilman Scholarship makes these opportunities possible for many, broadening access to truly remarkable global learning experiences.”
Gilman Scholarship Recipients Details
Junior Xayda Alexander is minoring in historical trauma and transformation and majoring in Spanish and psychology. “I’m honored to be a Gilman Scholarship recipient. Studying abroad has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl, and this scholarship makes my dream possible," said Alexander.
Under this scholarship, she wants to travel to Chile, Santiago as an intern and student under the Council on International Educational Exchange’s Summer in Santiago program.
“I’m most excited to potentially connect with my pen pal in Santiago, who I met in my Conversation in Spanish course with Professor Lindsey Manduano,” she said.
Alexa Miranda is pursuing her bachelor's degree in business administration. She is an energy management senior.
“Receiving this scholarship is a tremendous honor that reflects my commitment to academic excellence and global citizenship. It represents an opportunity to grow personally and professionally while breaking barriers and inspiring others to pursue similar transformative experiences," she said.
About Gilman Scholarships
It is given to US undergraduate students for study abroad opportunities.
"Gilman scholarship recipients can only receive the scholarship once. If a student previously declined a Gilman scholarship, they are welcome to re-apply, as long as they still meet all eligibility requirements listed below," says the official statement.
"The U.S. Department of State reserves the right to request program changes for specific countries or locations if deemed necessary during any stage of the application, selection process, or while on program. Final awards are contingent upon the availability of funds and the health and security situation in a country or location. Furthermore, a Gilman scholar’s status may be affected should the health or security situation in a country or location change," added the official statement.
