University of Warwick: Scientist Wins Prestigious Royal Society of Chemistry Prize

University of Warwick Scientist Dr Alexander Baker has won the prestigious Royal Society of Chemistry’s Early Career Prize for Excellence in Higher Education through his outstanding contribution to Chemistry education.

He received a prize of £3000, a certificate and a medal for exceptionally inspiring and motivating students in Chemistry. He encouraged them to develop, grow and challenge their scientific passion.

While commenting on the award, Dr Baker said,It was really heartwarming. I teach and research in a space that is often overlooked by mainstream science, so it was refreshing to have my work in trying to encourage, develop and challenge students to look beyond their own circumstances recognised.”

His work sought to deliver a curriculum in chemistry that reflects better globally and he also worked to increase chemistry access in universities. His research work reflects these demands and aims to offer diagnosis and therapeutics for neglected tropical diseases.

Dr Baker joined the list of Royal Society of Chemistry’s prestigious list of past winners. Out of these winners, 60 have gone to win Nobel Prizes including 2019 Nobel laureate John B Goodenough and 2022 Nobel Laureate Carolyn Bertozzi.

Students Organization Honoured with The King’s Award for Voluntary Service 2024

A student-led organization at the university has been awarded The King’s Award for Voluntary Service for 2024. They were recognized for dedicating more than 13,200 hours to 135 projects last year. The organization included 926 students of the University of Warwick.

While commenting on this, Modhurima Islam, Student President of Warwick Volunteers said,Our hardworking and dedicated volunteers are shining examples of the benefits that volunteering brings to both the community and the volunteers. We are continually inspired by their unwavering commitment, energy, and enthusiasm. It brings us great joy that their remarkable contributions have been recognised with this honour.”
