US has deported 48 Indian students in last three years without any explanation: MEA

Study in US: Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh has apprised Parliament that the United States of America has deported a minimum of 48 Indian students back to India and has not given any explanation for the same.

Kirti Vardhan Singh informed this while responding to a query by BK Parthasarathi. MEA was asked about the explanation of the US on deporting Indian students to their home country.

On this question, Kirti Vardhan Singh explained that though the US authorities have not shared any reasons with the Indian government about the deportation of these students he said that the potential reasons could be “unauthorized employment, unapproved withdrawal from classes, expulsion and suspension, and failure to report Optional Practical Training (OPT) employments," as reported by MSN.com.

He also added that these reasons are serious in nature and due to their illegal stay in the US, it could also result in the student visa termination.

Kirti Vardhan Singh added that the Indian government is engaged with their US counterpart to provide the legal mobility of skilled professionals and students and develop strong people-to-people ties between the two countries.
