Study in Australia: Recently, a six-member delegation from Western Sydney University visited India and signed four agreements in India to prepare next-generation leaders in Agri-tech.
A delegation from Western Sydney University Australia recently visited India to explore expanding cooperation between the university and ICAR.
"A 6-member delegation from Western Sydney University led by Vice-Chancellor Prof George Williams, met Dr Himanshu Pathak DG (#ICAR) and ICAR officials on 11th November 2024. The meeting aimed to explore expanding cooperation between ICAR and WSU," reads the message of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research on the X platform.
WSU's Delegation Visit To India: 4 Agreements Signed
The delegation signed four new agreements during their visit to India to create future Agri-tech leaders in the world.
Professor Williams said, “Partnerships are the catalyst for change. We are honoured to build collaborations that will make a difference,’’ he said. “We are deeply committed to expanding partnerships in India that advance sustainability, drive academic excellence and foster the next generation of leaders skilled in tackling the complex issues of sustainability and advancing agricultural industries."
According to WSU, it is leading the world in its commitment to alliance with agricultural institutes in India. Till now there were already 26 MoUs in place, and now the new agreements are going to play significant roles in boosting the WSU contribution to India's broader goals of food security and sustainable agriculture.
The WSU new agreements are signed with India's Junagadh Agricultural University, Agricultural Development Trust, Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, and Maharana Pratap Horticultural University.
"They include an exploration of delivering Agri-tech courses that integrate big data analytics and supply chain management as well as dual bachelor and master’s programs in agriculture, technology, management, logistics and supply chain management, entrepreneurship, and data science," reads the official statement.
"Proposed programs also feature industry-integrated learning through placements and internships to address key industry needs in India. This approach fills a unique niche in the educational landscape that complements rather than competes with existing national programs," added the statement.
WSU Launches 30-Year Strategy To Reshape Western Sydney's Future
The plan aims to provide an improved quality of life for residents by offering better job opportunities, and high incomes. The university aims to transition Western Sydney to a ‘core’ economy and raise gross regional product (GRP) to $379 billion in 2036 from $199 billion currently.
“Western Sydney is experiencing an incredible economic and social transformation. As the third largest city economy in Australia, it has the potential to achieve so much more,” said Professor Westacott.
“The report outlines clearly how we can harness the region's strengths – its vibrant entrepreneurial spirit, thriving small and medium enterprise ecosystem, highly-skilled people, and incredible multiculturalism – to drive the creation of jobs, unleash new industries, and connect Western Sydney with the world’s largest supply chains," added the professor.
