Study Abroad: Times Higher Education has announced that it will release the World University Rankings by Subject 2025 on January 22, and it has released the rankings methodology before the rankings.

Times Higher Education's World University Rankings by Subject 2025 will be released on January 22, 2025. It will help the students and academics understand the focus areas of each institution and identify the top universities in specific fields. This is going to help them in deciding the best institutes for admission in a particular subject area.

This ranking also helps universities as the ranking highlights the strengths of the universities for attracting partnerships and international students, and it also sets the benchmark performance against global standards.

The methodology for the World University Rankings by Subject 2025 includes the evaluation of universities across 11 subject areas using a refined version. These 11 subject areas include - Social Sciences, Psychology, Physical Sciences, Medical and Health, Life Sciences, Law, Engineering, Education Studies, Computer Science, Business and Economics, and Arts and Humanities.

Two of these subjects have got new names in 2025. Education Studies was formerly known as Education, and Medical and Health was formerly known as Clinical and Health.

Disciplines Covered Under Each Subject

Each subject has disciplines such as - Archaeology, History, philosophy and theology, Architecture, Languages, literature and linguistics, and Art, performing arts and design are covered under the Arts and Humanities. Economics and econometrics, Accounting and finance, and Business and management covered under Business and Economics. Academic studies in education, Teacher training, and Education under Education Studies. Chemical engineering, Civil engineering, Mechanical and aerospace engineering, Electrical and electronic engineering, and General engineering under Engineering. Sport science, Veterinary science, Biological sciences, and Agriculture and forestry under Life Sciences. Under Medical and Health, there are two disciplines covered - Medicine and dentistry and other health, under Physical Sciences, there are four disciplines including - Physics and astronomy, Mathematics and statistics, Geology, environmental, earth and marine sciences, and Chemistry. Clinical psychology, Educational/sport/business/animal psychology, and Psychology are covered in the Psychology subject. Geography, Sociology, Politics and international studies (including development studies), and Communication and media studies under social sciences.








World University Rankings and Interdisciplinary Science Rankings Portal Is Open For Universities

THE data portal for the World University Rankings and Interdisciplinary Science Rankings (ISR) is now open. THE has invited world universities to take part. There are no fees to participate in the rankings but they need to submit the data by March 30, 2025.







"Data submission is open to all universities for both rankings, but institutions will only be ranked if they satisfy certain criteria (see our inclusion/exclusion criteria for the World University Rankings and the Interdisciplinary Science Rankings)," reads THE statement.
