What is M.Arch?

M.Arch (Master of Architecture) is a postgraduate degree program designed for students who have completed an undergraduate degree in architecture or a related field. It offers advanced training in architecture and prepares students for professional practice or further academic pursuits. An M.Arch program typically includes coursework in the following areas:

  • Architectural Design: Advanced design studios and projects focusing on various architectural typologies and scales.
  • Architectural History and Theory: Exploration of the historical development of architecture and critical theories related to the field.
  • Structural Engineering: Understanding of structural systems and their application in architectural design.
  • Building Technology: Knowledge of construction materials, methods, and systems.
  • Environmental Design: Consideration of sustainability and environmental impact in architectural design.

Upon completion of an M.Arch program, graduates are typically qualified to practice architecture professionally and contribute to the design and development of built environments.

Why Study M.Arch?

Attention to detail, imagination, creativity, and the ability to critically assess elements are some of the major qualities found in a budding architect. From planning, designing, and constructing buildings or any structure to urban planning urban development, and interior designing - architecture as a profession has come a long way and this is only the beginning. Architecture has over time grown into such an integral part of our system that construction of any structure can only be possible after a complete layout designed by a qualified architect has attained the necessary government approvals. Hence, we see how important an architect has become especially now when a growing population and shrinking spaces plague us today.

Can I do M.Arch. from the US, after B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering. Will I get a job in US, as well as in India if I decide to come back. I have not completed any pre-requisites or projects. Can I still get an admission in a US university? Is it a STEM course in US?
