NJIT History
NJIT was established in 1880 through the active efforts and contributions from the Newark Board of Trade. Through the years the NJIT has established itself as a beacon of knowledge. Some of the key highlights of the history of the university are:
- The Newark Board of Trade worked closely with the Newark City Council to develop a school of higher learning in the state of New Jersey.
- The school was initially started as Newark Technical School in 1884.
