The curriculum helps you to excel.
Tips: There will be a good number of assignments in some courses and some will have to complete the projects which help in gaining practical experience. There is no need to worry about the prerequisites as the course is designed in such a way that even for people from non CS background can easily cope with the course.
Likes (Student Life): The curriculum is comfortable and goes at a pace such that even a person with no industry experience can cope easily. Other facilities like access to professors and library make life easy. All other facilities like gym, sports etc will make your life more pleasant.
Dislikes (Public transportation): Public transport to move in and out of the city is difficult as we have very limited options. But the public transport to move around new paltz is decent on working days. Getting the transport facilities particularly on the weekend is very difficult.

Normal and pretty decent university
Tips: Check for locality and college infrastructure, I don't think this campus is as big as other reputed Universities. New paltz is more like a suburban. I suggest everyone check the locality on Google Earth before finalizing because if it is not located in downtown, it's very spacious.
Likes (Safety): Low crime rate, safe roads, good police surveillance. Cops are really strict regarding traffic rules. Since rules are very different from India it takes some time to adapt to them. People around here are friendly. I hardly hear any violations or crimes
Dislikes (Indian Food): There is only one Indian restaurant in new Paltz that doesn't serve proper Indian food. Not a proper South Indian restaurant but we have multi cuisines. You get multiple stores for daily groceries. Indians cannot expect spicy or salty food. I suggest you try chick fil a burger.
