The University of Tampa was established in 1921 and is one of the oldest universities in the USA. In 1933, Tampa Junior College was converted into The University of Tampa. Frederic H. Spaulding was the man behind the creation of the first local university for Tampa's high school graduates. Frederic H. Spaulding was the former principal of Hillsborough High School and served as the institution's leader. The University of Tampa’s main academic and administrative building was Plant Hall with a vast history. A landmark of the city and its past, the structure was once known as the Tampa Bay Hotel.
