On Scholarships

Q:   Does Tufts University offer scholarships for international students?

A:

Tufts University does not offer any merit-based scholarships to any international students. However, overseas students who are financially on the weaker end can apply for need-based scholarships while applying to the university. Tufts fulfills the demonstrated financial need of all the admitted students. This demonstrated need is the difference between the annual cost to attend Tufts (including books, personal expenses, and transportation to campus) and the amount a student’s family is expected to contribute each year. While competition for international student financial aid is extremely competitive, the university is committed to maintaining and expanding its global campus community. Also, financial aid is not available to international students who do not receive aid upon admission. The family contribution that is determined upon admission will remain the same as long as the student is eligible to receive financial aid.

Q:   How can I apply for scholarships at Tufts University?

In order to apply for such scholarships at Tufts, students must complete and submit the CSS profile at the university's College Board website. While filling this application, students will be required to submit a set of documents through IDOC. If submission of the CSS Profile would cause significant financial hardship for the candidate's family, they can instead complete the International Student Financial Aid Application (ISFAA) once their application has been submitted and they have access to the Tufts portal. The completed ISFAA form and required supporting documents can be uploaded to the applicant's Tufts portal once they have access to it.

Q:   Does Tufts provide financial aid to international students?

A:

Tufts University believes in providing a limited amount of funding to talented international students. As per the official data, Tufts currently provides financial aid to 32 students out of a total of 355 international populations.

In the case of undergraduate admission, Tufts provides 100% of the demonstrated financial need of every student. Demonstrated need is a difference in the annual cost of attending Tuft including books, personal expenses, and transportation, and the expected amount to contribute to a student’s education.

The university receives a need-based grant of up to USD 10,000 (INR 8.3L) per year for undergraduate study. Students get the advantage of the Davis United World College Scholars grant and all Tufts financial aid grants if they maintain good academic standing. In addition, the university does not offer merit-based scholarships. (USD 1=INR 83.85 on 26 Aug 2024)

Great academia but comparatively less exposure into the industry
Tips: I did experience a cultural shift. Since Tufts is a private college, most of the students were established in wealth and culture seemed hard to fit in with. 15% scholarship on tuition fee, I availed it when I accepted the offer letter. I am well satisfied with the course and country.
Likes (Part time work): Many on-campus employment is available. Off-campus jobs are not allowed during coursework. On campus is manageable- either time of your choosing in the morning or the evening after classes or on weekends. Average pay is 15 dollars per hour ( 20 hr per week limit).
Dislikes (Internships): There are good internship opportunities but fewer company-university relationships. Most intern opps rise through networking with alumni-employees but not through a university-industry relationship. Maybe the university can do more on building hands-on industry exposure through internship programs.
