The University of Vermont: Courses, Admission, Cost

Established in 1791, the University of Vermont is commonly known as the University of Vermont and State Agricultural College. It is an open research institution of higher education. The university is considered to be among the oldest universities in the United States. It is associated with the renowned sports organization, the Hockey East Association. In 1871, the university began admitting female students and became a co-educational institution. Due to this, the number of enrolments increased rapidly. Also, the first radio broadcast in the state occurred from the university's radio station, WCAX-TV in 1924. Initially, this station was run by the university's student council.

The university campus is spread over an area of 450 acres. It comprises nine colleges, namely the College of Business Studies, College of Engineering & Mathematical Sciences, College of Arts & Sciences, College of Agriculture & Life Sciences, College of Medicine, College of Social Sciences, Honors College, College of Nursing & Health Sciences and College of Environment & Natural Resources. The campus provides all the required facilities. The students experience a calm learning environment at the campus.

Moreover, the campus consists of four dining halls, namely the Simpson Fine Dining Hall, Northside Dining, the Grundle Dining and the Central Campus Dining Hall. All the fests, inter-college competitions, seminars, events and quizzes conducted by the university are organized within the campus. The campus is close to many cafes. Several stationery shops, chemist shops and departmental stores are set nearby the campus.

The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs. It has a total strength of about 11,000 students. The students are taught under experienced faculty members. The academic structure of the university consists of a wide range of courses that are categorized into various schools and colleges. Several industry professionals visit the University Guest Lectures, interactive sessions and practical workshops. The students also get a chance to participate in the student exchange programs.

This gives them an opportunity to work as interns at the renowned organizations under professionals. In 2015, the university began a Wellness Environment Program which gives students access to yoga instructors, fitness & nutrition coaches, meditation sessions and various mentorship programs. In addition, the university is known for some notable publications such as The Vermont Cynic, a weekly newspaper, The Water Tower, a weekly student newspaper, Vermont Quarterly, an alumni magazine, and Proverbium, a Yearbook.
