Yes, you can pursue a Bachelor of Pharmacy (B Pharm) after finishing Class 12 in a non-medical stream. Although many universities or colleges may favor applicants who have taken Science subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, and Biology or included Mathematics in their Class 12 studies, some institutions might accept candidates from non-medical backgrounds for their B Pharm programs.
The Bachelor of Pharmacy (B Pharm) program is typically a four-year undergraduate course available in several countries, including India. This degree encompasses a wide range of topics concerning pharmaceutical sciences, drug formulation, pharmacology, and pharmaceutical chemistry, along with practical experience in the pharmacy field.
Students participating in the B Pharm will engage in both classroom instruction and practical training sessions that emphasize pharmaceutical sciences and other relevant aspects of pharmacy practice. Although there may be variations in duration or structure in different countries, it is primarily offered as a four-year program.
Many states in India conduct their own specific entrance exams for students seeking admission to the B Pharmacy program. These assessments are designed to gauge candidates' comprehension and skills in fundamental subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Biology or Mathematics, which are central to the B Pharmacy coursework.
For instance, some of these state-level pharmacy entrance examinations include those managed by UPTAC (Uttar Pradesh Technical Admission Counselling), the Andhra Pradesh Engineering Agricultural and Pharmacy Common Entrance Test (APEAMCET), the Telangana State Engineering, Agriculture, and Medical Common Entrance Test (TS EAMCET), Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET), Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GUJCET), Haryana State Technical Education Society (HSTES), Kerala Engineering Architecture Medical Entrance Exam (KEAM), West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEE), and Maharashtra Health and Technical Common Entrance Test (MHTCET).
Indeed, some institutions accept NEET scores for admission into the B Pharmacy program, but this is not widespread. Typically, colleges select students based on their 12th-grade marks or their own entrance examinations. However, there are certain universities and colleges that may include NEET scores in their admission criteria for the B Pharmacy course.
This practice tends to be more prevalent in schools that provide both Medical and Pharmacy degrees.
Certainly! You can use your CUET (Common University Entrance Test) scores to apply for the B Pharmacy program, as long as the university or institution you're interested in accepts CUET results for pharmacy admissions.
The CUET is a standardized entrance exam that serves numerous undergraduate programs at different universities throughout India. Several central universities also accept CUET.

If you do B Pharma, how much you earn depends on where you work, your experience, and your job role. Here’s a simple idea:
Freshers can earn around INR 15,000 to INR 25,000 a month.
Mid-level people usually make INR 25,000 to INR 50,000.
Experienced ones can even earn between INR 50,000 to INR 1,00,000 per month.
Yes… so pharmacists can’t just open their own clinics. In India, only MBBS doctors get that right. Pharmacists can run a chemist shop and give out meds, but actually treating patients in a clinic? Nope, that’s off-limits.
Even if you know a ton about medicines, without an MBBS, you can’t prescribe or run a clinic. You can sell meds once your shop license is sorted, but only as per doctors’ prescriptions. And heads up—some chemists suggest stuff for minor issues, but technically that’s illegal and can get them in real trouble.
B Pharma is basically a course that gets you ready to jump straight into jobs in India’s pharma world. The market’s booming—India’s Economic Survey 2021 says it could triple in ten years! Even with some bumps along the way, they expect around 58,000 new jobs by 2025, and the industry could grow up to 45%.
After you graduate, you’ve got options—work in government, join a pharma company, or even start your own pharmacy. Fun fact: India’s pharma exports are huge, like 6.6% of all merchandise, and during COVID, India shipped over 586 million vaccines worldwide. Basically, B Pharma grads are in hot demand, especially for clinical and regulatory roles in the industry.

Getting into MBBS is way tougher than B Pharma. MBBS takes 5–6 years of crazy hard work before you can officially call yourself a doctor—it’s super prestigious and respected.
B Pharma, on the other hand, is kind of simpler. You learn about medicines and usually end up working in pharmacies, and sometimes even run your own chemist shop. Both paths are solid—it just depends on how much grind you’re ready to put in.
Okay, so if you’re trying to pick between Hyderabad and Delhi for Pharmacy, it’s not about which city is “best” for everyone—it’s about what you want. Both cities have good options, but they’re different in their own ways.
Here’s a quick look:
| Hyderabad | Delhi |
|---|---|
| Growing Pharmaceutical Hub | National Capital |
| Lower Cost of Living | Top Ranked Colleges |
| Research Oriented | Exposure to Different Sectors |
| Competitve Admission | High Cost of Living |
| - | Fast Paced Lifestyle |
Finally, the "better" city comes down to your objectives and goals. If price and a decent lifestyle are important, Hyderabad could be a better option. If you value academic brilliance, government job prospects, and a vibrant cultural scene, Delhi may be a better fit.
Yes, it can be said that studying BPharma in India can be quite expensive as most of the colleges have an average tuition fee of more than 2 lakh. Students can refer below for the low costing BPharma colleges in India:
| College Name | Tuition Fee | Eligibility / Exams |
|---|---|---|
| Maharshi Dayanand University | INR 1,920 | HSTES |
| Mahatma Jyoti Rao Phoole University | INR 2,000 - INR 3.72 lakh | Merit-Based |
| Kumaun University | INR 2,880 | Merit-Based |
| St. Mary's Group of Institutions | INR 4,000 | Merit-Based |
| Dr. Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya | INR 7,200 | CUET and Merit-Based |

So, straight up—you can’t become a doctor just by doing B Pharma. Pharmacy isn’t the same thing as being a doctor. To actually call yourself a doctor, you need an MBBS, BDS, or an Ayush degree like BAMS, BHMS, or BUMS, plus any other required certifications.
MBBS is the main route. It is a 4-year UG course (includes 6-month internship). To get in, you need to clear NEET, be at least 17, and have finished Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
Nah, B Pharma doesn’t make you a doctor. It’s a 4-year course all about medicines—how they’re made, tested, and given out—but it doesn’t let you actually treat or diagnose patients.
B Pharma grads become pharmacists, which is still super important. You’re the go-to for drug development, checking quality, and helping patients understand their meds. But unlike MBBS or Pharm D, you cannot own a clinic.
