History
The roots of Regina University go back to the year 1911, when the Methodist Church established Regina College as a residential high school. In 1925, Regina College became a junior college of the University of Saskatchewan, and started offering first-year Arts and Science classes. In the 1950s, a School of Arts was created and the Norman Mackenzie Art Gallery was established. Finally, in 1961, Regina College acquired degree-granting status as the University of Saskatchewan-Regina Campus.
The US-RC held its first convocation in 1965, granting the first honorary degree to the Prime Minister at that time, Lester B. Pearson. The institute continued to grow and in 1974, the University of Regina was established as an independent institute. The university celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2024.
