Named after the explorer James Cook, James Cook University is a public university from North Queensland, Australia. The university started accepting students in the year 1961, under the University of Queensland. James Cook University became an independent university in the year 1970 and is the second oldest university in Australia. JCU offers undergraduate, postgraduate, online, short-term, and pathway courses.
The College of Arts, Society, and Education offers a Bachelor of Education and Master of Education in multiple specializations, Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts, and also a Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work. Each sub-department also has diploma and pathway programmes. The College of Business Law and Governance has a Bachelor of Laws, Bachelor of Science in Law, and multiple MBA programmes and diploma courses. The Business sub-department has a Bachelor of Business, Bachelor of Commerce, and also an MBA in different specialisations.
The College of Healthcare Sciences offers different programmes in nursing and midwifery, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, psychology, speech pathology, and sports exercise science. The degree programmes available in the domain are Bachelor of Speech Pathology, Master of Rehabilitation, Bachelor of Nursing Science, Master of Nursing, Master of Public Health, and Bachelor of Physiotherapy. The College of Medicine and Dentistry offers a Bachelor of Health Science, Bachelor of Medicine, and Master of Health Professional Education under the Medicine sub-category. The dentistry department has Bachelor of Dental Surgery, Graduate Diploma of Orthodontics, and more. The college also has a pharmacy department that offers Bachelor of Pharmacy and Master of Pharmaceutical Public Health, among others. The College of Public Health, Medical, and Veterinary Sciences offers postgraduate degrees in Molecular and Cell Biology, Public Health and Tropical Medicine, and Veterinary Sciences. The Biomedical Sciences in the same college also have Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences, Bachelor of Clinical Sciences, Master of Medical Science, etc.
The College of Science and Engineering has seven specialisations under which undergraduate, graduate, and diploma courses are offered. Students can study Engineering, Environmental Management, Geoscience, Information Technology, Marine Biology and Aquaculture, Physical Sciences and Zoology, and Ecology.
James Cook University has three campuses in Cairnes and Townsville Australia and Singapore. The Townsville campus is the main campus and also the largest. It boasts of 11,500 students, out of which 1,500 are international. The Townsville campus also has three affiliated colleges: Saints Catholic College, Saints Mark’s College, and John Flynn College. JCU’s Cairnes campus has 4,000 of the total university student population. The Singapore campus was established in the year 2003.
