University of Manitoba Placement overview
The Asper School of Business at the University of Manitoba has over 19,000 alumni employed at top organisations around the globe, holding leadership positions. In 2020, 85% of MBA graduates and 90% of BComm graduates got a full-time job after completing graduation. Those pursuing an MBA experienced a 40% hike in the average salary post-graduation. The main reasons behind students getting enrolled for the Asper MBA course included enhanced earning potential, better career options, and development of knowledge and management skills pertaining to the industry of choice.
74% of the MBA graduates obtained a higher post after graduation with 85% being into a job within 6 months of graduation. Of those completing their MBA, 98% stayed back in Canada and 83% stayed in Winnipeg. Also, the M.Finance students witnessed a 33% hike in the average salary post-graduation.
The university also featured in the World University Rankings released by the Times Higher Education, which contained around 1,400 universities from around the globe.

It can be noted that the major which witnessed the highest placement for graduates was Accounting with almost 80% of its graduates getting a placement offer. This was followed by Finance and Marketing with 49% and 33% placement rates. Like every other career-oriented university, the University of Manitoba too has a career development centre which aims at offering a helping hand to its students and alumni. Supporting students in reaching the apex, the centre focuses on their overall development to be industry ready. It is made sure that the students not only become good professionals but also bring a positive change in and around them. 79% of students made use of these career services. Manitoba’s Asper School of Business gets linked with the business community and helps students obtain quality employment opportunities.
Not just the existing students but the alumni as well are extended support with regards to finding a job. Students can discover around 200 professional options listed on the website. Co-operative education courses are also available which allows them to earn a competitive amount.
Some of the career services for students that the university offers are explained below:
- Job Search Book: It is a guide which will aid you in discovering and developing the skills that which professional environment or the work industry requires: from part-time to full-time jobs.
- Career Fest: This annual fest is hosted by the Career Services, the Asper School of Business Career Development Centre and the Price Faculty of Engineering. Over 100 employers took part in the same in 2020 and more than 2800 students, as well as alumni, attended the same. A career fest helps you get your queries resolved directly from the employers and enlightens you with the traits and skills which are most in-demand. Information about all kinds of job opportunities can be gained. Students can also learn about various graduate and certificate courses on offer which can enhance their skill set and knowledge for the future.
- Resume Learning Centre: Students can get assistance with their CVs or resumes via e-mail, video call or phone call. They will be required to complete a Support Request Form in which they’ll have to provide copies of their documents and select timings and mode of assistance as per their convenience.
- UM Café: Here students are connected with mentors or guides on the basis of their target, interests and career choices. Students have the liberty to decide the time, date and frequency of these sessions. This is an online service that lets you connect and obtain expert knowledge, suggestions, and much more.
- Career Mentor Program (CMP): This allows students to connect with industry experts and learn about their area of work and requirements. This program is available from September to April.
- Career and Workforce Development Month: During this month, various events are organised that help students sort out their career routes or doubts, if any. More than 22 events are conducted online such as Volunteer Fair, Employer Advice-Career Café, Arts Career Round Table etc, which can be attended by all the students and alumni.
