TOEFL Exam Pattern 2025

There is no changes in the TOEFL exam pattern 2025, it is still the same as it was in the last year. The TOEFL test has been divided into four sections, namely, Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing - along with the total score. It goes without saying that the more you practice TOEFL sample papers, the better your scores will be. Each section has a score range of 0-30, for a total score range of 0-120. Scores will be posted online six days after the test date. ETS will send up to four official score reports directly to the institutions the student selects.

TOEFL Exam Syllabus 2025

The TOEFL iBT syllabus for students includes reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. Here is the TOEFL exam format covering the TOEFL writing syllabus, TOEFL reading syllabus, TOEFL listening syllabus, and TOEFL speaking syllabus:

TOEFL Exam Syllabus: Reading 

Description: In this section, you will read 3-4 passages and answer 10 questions on each passage. The section is scored based on the number of correct reading comprehension responses.
Question type:

3–4 passages, 10 questions each
Total no. of questions: About 30-40
Total time: 54-72 minutes

TOEFL Exam Syllabus: Listening

Description: In the Listening test section, you will hear lectures and conversations, based on campus language. This section aims to understand the test taker's ability to understand conversations and lectures in English. It includes listening to basic comprehension and understanding, connecting, and synthesizing information.
Question type:
a) 3–4 lectures (3-5 minutes long, about 500-800 words), 6 questions each
b) 2–3 conversations (about 3 minutes long, about 12-25 exchanges), 5 questions each
Total time: 41–57 minutes

TOEFL Exam Syllabus: Speaking

Description: For you to earn the highest scores in the Speaking Section, your responses must fulfil the demands of the task given with only minor mistakes or lapses. The test graders are looking for a highly intelligible and sustained conversation. There are three main factors that comprise scoring for the section, viz, delivery, language use, and topic development.
Question type:
a) 1 independent task (prep time: 15 sec; response time: 45 sec)
b) 3 integrated tasks – Read/Listen/Speak
Total no. of questions: 4
Total time: 17 minutes

TOEFL Exam Syllabus: Writing

Description: The two essays should effectively address a topic each. The response should be well-organized and well-developed using relevant explanations and detailed support. Furthermore, it should also display unity, progression, and coherence. If you want to achieve a high writing score, make sure that you demonstrate the syntactic variety and appropriate word choice with minor grammatical errors.
Question type:
a) 1 integrated task – Read/Listen/Write (20 minutes) (reading time: 3 min; listening
time: 2 min; writing: 15 min)
b) 1 independent task (30 minutes)
Total no. of questions: 2
Total time: 50 minutes

Candidates wanting to excel in their TOEFL Examination need to put in their best efforts and above all have a good command of the English language. The following TOEFL preparation tips are only going to help candidates further this cause of accomplishing a better TOEFL score.

  • Reading:

    Candidates are advised to read regularly through university textbooks and literature that cover a variety of subject areas and are written in an academic style. Students should also practice making inferences and drawing conclusions based on what is implied in the passage as a whole.
  • Listening:

    To excel in this segment, candidates are required to focus on the content and flow of spoken material while listening. Create an outline of the information discussed while listening. Write main ideas, major points, and important details. Use the outline to write a brief summary after listening. Gradually increase the amount of presentation used to write the summary.
  • Speaking:

    Applicants taking the exam should focus on increasing their vocabulary and learning to use idiomatic speech appropriately. Be well versed with grammatical structures and use them naturally when speaking. Work on pronunciation, including word stress, intonation patterns, and pauses.   • Writing:

    Students are advised to make a list of familiar topics and practise writing about them. For each topic state an opinion or a preference and then support it with evidence. Practice planning and writing at least one essay for each topic. Be sure to take 30 minutes to plan, write, and revise each essay. Think about and list all ideas related to a topic or task before writing.

Candidates can expect their TOEFL scores to be announced six days after the day of the examination. The results would be made available online for the convenience of the aspirant. Printed reports are mailed 11 days after the test date. After that, candidates must allow at least 7 to 10 days’ time for the hard copy of the TOEFL score to reach them. This process can’t be hurried as ETS has no control over the delivery of the mail. The TOEFL scores will be valid for two years. Hello Nikhil. Hope you are doing well. I seem to have overlooked your comment and my apologies for the same. I am guessing you have got your results by now. Reading the question out loud should not ideally affect your TOEFL test scores.

Do 93 overall TOEFL scores (R27, L27, W25, S14) leads rejection during Germany embassy interview, besides I have got unconditional offer from university? For Master Degree.
