Study Abroad: US Consul Melinda Pavek recently highlighted that a significant number of Indian students are going to form the biggest contingent heading to US universities this year, majority of these students are from Eastern India.

As per reports, one in four international students in the United States is from India and of these mostly come from the East. This reflects the US popularity among Indian students. The Indian students go there for better global career prospects after getting a quality education.

While commenting on the growing educational partnership between the two countries, US Consul Melinda Pavek said, “Thousands of students from eastern India are part of the largest-ever Indian delegation to the US this year," as reported by aecoverseas.

“I would hate the prospect of a student mortgaging family fortune to study in an Ivy League school. The emphasis should be rather on the degree," she said.

The recent data suggested that Indian students have increased in substantial numbers in the US, they now constitute 25% of the total international students in the US.

US Embassy statement reads, "The top four student visa processing posts in the world were all right here in India last year, as we issued more visas than in 2018, 2019 and 2020 combined," as reported by India Today.

US remains top choice in study-abroad destination for Indian students

Oxford International’s Student Global Mobility Index (SGMI) suggests that the United States remain the top choice of destination for Indian study abroad aspirants, followed by the UK, Canada and Australia, as per Financial Express.

The adjusting immigration systems in the UK, Canada and Australia are making it challenging for Indian aspirants to go to these countries and the US meanwhile likely to increase its popularity.

SEVIS's latest data says that over 350,000 Indian students are currently studying in the US which is the highest, almost 30% of overall international students studying in the US. The Indian students enroll in a variety of courses in the US which includes popular courses like Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science along with other traditional courses.
