Are you smarter than 95% of people? If yes, solve this brain teaser

Study in US: The Ivy League Harvard University is a dream for many study abroad aspirants. It attracts international students from various countries and is known for its world-class facilities, popular courses and brand value. Now, a brain teaser has become viral on social media platforms which is reportedly from the interview questions of Harvard University.

It asks a Mathematical question which looks simple but as per reports, 95% of people are not able to guess it. Everyone is trying to solve it on social media platforms and coming up with different answers. You can also try to solve this brain teaser.

The question looks straightforward and asks - “7 men have 7 wives. Each man and each wife have 7 children. Q: What’s the total number of people?”

The post on X is being reshared on multiple social media platforms.

One of the replies on this post says, “It looks tricky. 7 men + 7 wives = 14. No. of children for each man & each wife = 7. No. of children for each man with the seven wives = 49 (7×7). Overall no. of children = 343 (49×7). Total no. is 14+343 = 357,” suggested an X user.

“So my guess: 7 men and 7 wives means 7 couples. So each couple had 7 children so 7 * 7 = 49, and the total number of people are: 49 children + 7 men + 7 women = 63," guessed another reader.

“399, 7 men with 7 wives =49 wives +7 men = 56. Each of the 56 have 7 kids. (They don't say it's with each other, so I've calculated as each adult), 56×7 = 392 kids, Adults = 56, People =448,” said another reply.

“The most literal interpretation of the first line is that there are 7 men, whom each have 7 wives. So I'm going with 7 men, 49 wives. 56 adults. The next bit is tricky. It could mean that each and every man and each and every woman have 7 children of their own, unrelated to any of the other adults. That would be 56 * 7 = 392 children. It could mean that each man has seven children WITH each wife. So it would be 49 × 7 = 342 children. Then you add the adults, 56 total.

So either 448 people or 398 people,” was another reply.
