Auckland University Of Technology Offers Internship Opportunity To BITS Pilani Student
A student from Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani has the opportunity to work on a research project at the Auckland University of Technology.
Study in New Zealand: A 20-year-old Bachelor of Electronics and Electrical Engineering student - Preetham Reddy Kasarla from Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani got to work on a distinctive research project at Auckland University of Technology (AUT).
Preetham Reddy hails from Hyderabad. He went to New Zealand in May this year. His internship was in a highly specialised area within electronics which is designing terahertz antennas on chip. It involves creating high-frequency, and extremely small antennas.
He did his internship under the mentorship of Professor Xuejun Li from AUT's School of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences. To explore antenna theory and design, he used the Ansys HFSS (high-frequency structure simulator) software and advanced facilities. The project explored handling challenges in manufacturing and efficiency.
More Details of BITS Pilani's Student Internship at AUT
This opportunity came to him when the AUT Senior Lecturer Dr Ashwin Polishetty visited BITS Pilani last year.
“I saw a LinkedIn post about Dr Polishetty’s visit and sent him my resume, and he connected me with Professor Xuejun Li,” he said.
Dr Polishetty said, “This was a unique opportunity to connect BITS Pilani and AUT through student internships and to confirm AUT’s commitment to collaborate with top-ranking universities in India for research and academic purposes.”
AUT Pro-Vice-Chancellor International Guy Littlefair said, “Preetham’s project underscores the benefits of international research collaborations and highlights the potential impact of advanced technology across various fields. One of our more recent foci has been on the opportunities for student mobility and this is an example of where we have supported an opportunity for collaboration at the research student level.”
Preetham is planning to continue his research even after returning to India while the internship was not for academic credit. He will be collaborating with his mentor at BITS Pilani - Professor Sourav Nandi. AUT’s support to Preetham included covering the accommodation and expenses. He talked about the AUT labs which he found to be excellent, especially for running simulations. He is trying to balance between his robotics experience and his interest in on-chip electronics and the internship has added valuable learning experience to him.
“His aim is to explore and overcome the manufacturing challenges of nanoscale antennas and potentially develop prototypes at his university’s new antenna facility. Preetham said these antennas have significant applications in biomedical fields and high-speed communication technologies,” said the official statement.
