Brown University Witnesses Slight Uptick in Admission Yield; Know Details Here

Study in US: Brown University has reported a slightly higher percentage of admission yield rate as compared to the class of 2027. 65% of total admitted students in the class of 2028 are enrolled.

In this Fall, as many as 2,639 students were admitted of which 1,725 new students joined Brown University. Associate Provost for Enrollment and Dean of Undergraduate Admission Logan Powell has confirmed that 118 applicants were admitted to Brown from the waitlist. 86 matriculated out of those from the waitlist.

The university has witnessed a 29% drop in Hispanic student enrollment and a 40% decrease in black enrollment as against last year.

“Race-neutral strategies to encourage outstanding and increasingly diverse incoming classes will remain our priority moving forward. The University will continue to comply with the Supreme Court’s decision outlawing race-based affirmative action," reiterated Powell.

Scholarship options decreased for students

In the class of 2028, only 45% will get the grant aid or need-based scholarship as against last year when 50% of people received such grants. The university also said that half of the new classes were selected through the early decision application process and almost all students accepted in this process are enrolled at Brown University. A total of 898 students enrolled through the early process.

Brown’s Ad Hoc Committee on Admission Policies said, "Brown determines the composition of roughly half of the incoming class at a relatively early date," as reported by Brown Daily Herald.

The university has continued with its alliance with organizations like the TEAK Fellowship, QuestBridge, and the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation. All these organizations back the students from low-income families.

“Brown’s commitment to a diverse campus community in every sense remains unchanged, and the first step in admitting a diverse class is ensuring that talented students of every background apply,” added Powell.

For the application process, Brown University has replaced a previous essay prompt and now the applicant should explain how the growing up challenged them and how their experience can contribute to Brown University. The university also added four short-answer questions.
