Civil Affairs University of China launches marriage services and management degree course
Civil Affairs University of China is based in Beijing and it aims to make skilled professionals to develop marriage-related industries and culture.
Beijing-based Civil Affairs University of China has launched a first-its-kind undergraduate course to teach students essential skills to develop marriage-related industries and culture. The program will commence in September 2024.
This new course has been launched in line with the decrease in China's population for a second consecutive year. Hence, the country wants to revamp its marriage-related culture. In China, marriage is a prerequisite for having children, and as per the country's policies, parents need to present their marriage certificates to register their kids and get benefits.
The course will focus on the marriage industry development, will highlight the country's family culture and positive marriage to the public and students, and will advance the reform of China's marriage customs.
This year, the university is all set to enrol 70 undergraduates from 12 provinces in field sectors including high-end wedding planning, family counselling, and the development of matchmaking products.
One of the messages on the X platform reads, "Degree program in all things matrimony, and its curriculum includes wedding venue design, the economics of the marriage industry and family policies. China’s first university degree in marriage offers courses like matchmaking and pre-divorce counseling."
Career prospects after undergraduate degree course in marriage services
The graduates of this programme will be able to join wedding services companies, matchmaking agencies, industry associations, and family and marriage counselling organisations. The course will offer specialized training so that the professionals will be able to offer positive guidance on marriage to society and consumers.
Zhao Honggang, the university’s vice-president highlighted the significance of adapting their majors to promote social development through advanced culture and societal changes.
Reportedly, the university's initiative has met with criticism and ridicule on China's social media platform Weibo. People are questioning the need for such courses and also saying that such degrees will leave graduates unemployed, as reported by Business Standard.
