The last date to apply for the Harvard Academy Scholars Program is September 20, 2024. Every year, five or six scholars are selected for two-year in-residence appointments with an annual stipend of $80,000.

The Harvard Academy for International and Area Studies offers the Academy Scholars Program to recent PhD recipients and doctoral candidates in the social sciences. The application process started on June 7, 2024, and the last date to apply for the program is September 20, 2024.

"All materials must be received by September 20, 2024. The selection process begins immediately thereafter. Applicants whose materials are incomplete are at a disadvantage when considered by the Selection Committee. Announcement of the awards will be made in December 2024," said the official statement.

Academy Scholars programs names five or six scholars every year for two-year in-residence appointments with an annual stipend of $80,000 and the two years of appointments to be completed within a three-year window.

Documents needed for Harvard Academy Scholars Program

The following documents need to be submitted with a completed application form:

  • A curriculum vitae (CV) which includes a list of publications
  • Should include a research proposal of not more than 2000 words and it should include planned methodological and disciplinary work and intellectual objectives.
  • Copy of PhD program transcript
  • One Scholarly writing sample that can include single-authored peer-reviewed academic journal article of fifty pages maximum or PhD dissertation chapter in English.
  • The applicant should also provide three letters of recommendation.

"You may include footnotes, endnotes, and/or bibliographies in your proposed research statement, but they are not required. If you do give references, they will not count towards the 2000-word maximum for the research statement," added the official statement.








Scholars are mentored by Harvard Academy Senior Scholars

The selected scholars get substantial research and financial assistance which allows them to upgrade their skills in their chosen fields and let them undertake robust research projects. The Scholars remain in touch and meet at seminars, dinners, and informal get-togethers to pursue innovative interdisciplinary approaches to their work. The Senior Scholars are there to help and mentor them.
