Harvard Business School MBA Admission: Application form revised with new set of essays

The new essays included in the revised application form are - Business-Minded Essay, Leadership-Focused Essay, and Growth-Oriented Essay. The first deadline for the Harvard Business School MBA program is September 4, 2024.

Study in US: Harvard Business School has revised the application for MBA candidates just 10 weeks before its first application deadline on September 4, 2024. The revised application has a new set of three short essays along with a refresh on how it will evaluate applicants for future classes.

This change was introduced by Rupal Gadhia, who joined the school as managing director of admissions and financial aid last October. Gadhia said in a blog post, “we have refreshed the criteria on which we evaluate candidates. We are looking for applicants who are business-minded, leadership-focused, and growth-oriented…This is your opportunity to discuss meaningful or formative experiences that are important to you that you haven’t had a chance to fully explore elsewhere in your application…Be authentic, be yourself," as reported by poetsandquants.

Harvard Business School MBA Application Process Details

The second deadline for the Round 1 is 10 DEC 2024. For Round 2, the first deadline will be on 06 JAN 2025 and second deadline will be on 26 MAR 2025.

"Applications received after September 4, 2024 will be considered in Round 2. Applications received after January 6, 2025 will not be considered. Please note that each "round" represents a distinct period in which you may apply, not a succession of steps for your application. You may apply in one round only, one time in an application year," reads the official statement.

To apply for the MBA program, the candidates need to submit a written application along with the following documents - Transcripts, GRE/GMAT, English Language Test, Essays, Recommendations, Resume, Fee or Fee Waiver, and Acceptance of Policies.

As per the revised application, the candidates for the MBA Class of 2027 (matriculating fall 2025) need to respond to these three essay prompts:

• Business-Minded Essay: It should reflect on how your experiences have influenced your career choices and aspirations and the impact you will have on the businesses, organizations, and communities you plan to serve. (up to 300 words)
• Leadership-Focused Essay: What experiences have shaped who you are, how you invest in others, and what kind of leader you want to become? (up to 250 words)
• Growth-Oriented Essay: Share an example of how you have demonstrated curiosity and how that has influenced your growth. (up to 250 words)

After the application is submitted and reviewed, you may be invited for the interview which is of 30 minutes duration.

"Within 24 hours of the interview, candidates are required to submit a written reflection through our online application system," reads the university statement.
