Loughborough University establishes new multi-disciplinary Centre for AI use in UK transport
The multi-disciplinary Centre aims to revolutionize how Artificial Intelligence is used to improve the UK transport sector. The Centre is expected to boost the university's reputation as a leader in AI and transport.
Study in UK: Loughborough University announced the launch of the Transport AI Innovation Centre, or TRAICE to revolutionize how Artificial Intelligence is used to improve the UK transport sector.
The Centre is aiming to become a leading Centre of Excellence for advancing efficient, safe, smart, equitable and sustainable transport.
Transport AI Innovation Centre is aiming for innovative contributions and comprehensive coverage of transport research by harnessing and improving the advancements in artificial technologies and data.
Dean of the University’s School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering, Professor Malcolm Cook said, “TRAICE is an exciting development for us at Loughborough University. The new centre, which originates from the successful transport and urban planning group in the School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering, recognises the complex, multifaceted challenges facing transport logistics and draws on expertise beyond planning and civil engineering, bringing together mathematicians, economists, social scientists as well as other engineering disciplines. I look forward to seeing the new advances in research and the impact these have on our stakeholder activities.”
Dr Haitao from the University’s School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering will serve as the Director of the new Centre. He said: “TRAICE is the UK's first transport research and innovation centre that champions a fully interdisciplinary approach, bringing together over 70 academic staff from all nine Schools at Loughborough University to tackle critical transport challenges. As we establish TRAICE, our vision is to become a leading Centre of Excellence for advancing smart, safe, efficient, equitable, and sustainable transport.
TRAICE Details
The Centre will work around seven interlinked themes including - Connectivity, Smart Mobility, Vehicle Digital Twin, Cycling, Cities and Planning, and Electrification and Automation. The Centre will have over 70 academic staff from all nine of the Loughborough University's schools. The Centre will have postdoctoral researchers and PhDs.
