Monash University appoints Professor Steven Vaughan from UCL as next Dean Faculty of Law

Study in Australia: After a competitive global search, Monash University in Australia has appointed a new Dean for the Faculty of Law - Professor Steven Vaughan. He will commence his new role in January 2025.

"Congratulations to Professor Steven Vaughan who has been appointed our next Dean, Faculty of Law. We’re delighted to welcome Professor Vaughan to Monash in January 2025," reads a message of the university on the X platform.

He is currently a Professor of Law and Professional Ethics at University College London. At UCL he also previously served as (COVID) Chair of the Faculty Education Team, Deputy Dean/Head of Department, and Vice Dean (Strategy). He has served in academic and teaching leadership positions at leading law schools in the UK including the University of Bristol, Cardiff University and the University of Birmingham.








More about Steven Vaughan

He is internationally renowned as a legal scholar, educator and author. He has spent much of his career developing teaching approaches to inspire, motivate and influence students to learn. He has over 20 years of experience spanning multiple non-executive director roles, industries and higher education.







He is a regular speaker at prominent industry and academic events where he provides his legal expertise. Professor Steven Vaughan is an authoritative voice in policy-making with several non-executive appointments in press, healthcare and legal services regulation. He has received many awards and honours for his achievements in the legal field of research and teaching.

He completed a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Oxford in 2002 and Master of Sciences in 2008 and PhD in 2014 from Cardiff University.

Sensory Science exhibition and books gain international recognition

The university has come up with an internship program for disabled people and low-vision and blind communities. Monash Sensory Science started as a Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute (BDI) internship program. It was supported by Monash University and ARC.

BDI researcher and founder of this initiative Professor Jamie Rossjohn said, “The answer to this question is likely no, because all too often, science is taught and communicated through the lens of able-bodied people to the exclusion of people with disabilities. There was also the realisation that in the two decades of running a lab, we hadn’t included employees with diverse physical needs. People with disabilities face huge challenges in securing employment, and I realised that we are part of the problem.”
